Spread over two sites this large inner city garden looked to create a functional yet elegant setting for the existing arts and crafts style house.
Details
A central aspect of this garden design was circulation – both for vehicles (as there are two separate garages) and to accommodate people moving between the different buildings and garden areas.
Tall planting was purposefully removed from around the house to let the building breathe, allowing the landscape to connect closely with the architecture, creating a series of green spaces that soften the built form while providing privacy and a sense of retreat.
Rather than feeling overly formal, the garden has a relaxed, established quality, with greenery allowed to soften edges and creating a sense of connection between the different areas of the property.
The result is a garden that feels quietly integrated into the architecture while remaining distinctly connected to its setting.
