This compact urban garden is designed as a lush extension of the home, using dense planting and carefully framed spaces to create a sense of privacy and retreat within its suburban setting.

A restrained palette of concrete paths and terraces provides a quiet structure for the planting, with clipped hedges, grasses and generous layers of foliage creating softness, enclosure and movement. Large-leaved species are used alongside more delicate flowering plants, giving the garden a rich, textural character that changes through the seasons.

The garden is organised as a series of intimate outdoor spaces, from the dining area tucked amongst the planting to the more open spaces immediately around the house. Rather than separating the architecture from the landscape, the planting is allowed to wrap around and soften the built form, creating a close and immersive relationship between the two.
