A young native garden finding its place by the sea.
Details
Completed in late 2020, this garden was designed for a beach house in Matapouri, using a predominantly New Zealand native planting palette to create a relaxed landscape that feels at home within its coastal setting.
A mix of trees, grasses and groundcovers have been selected for their ability to thrive in the conditions while creating movement throughout the garden.
Still relatively young, the garden is beginning to reveal the direction of the landscape as the planting establishes and matures.
Over time, the garden will become increasingly layered and immersive, with the native planting developing a stronger sense of connection to the wider coastal landscape.
