St Heliers Garden

Part of a larger landscape project still in progress, this first section focuses on transforming an area of off-street parking into something that feels more integrated with the garden.

Previously dominated by concrete, the space has been reworked to shift the emphasis away from the car and towards planting.

Simple strips of concrete set within gravel define the parking bays, while planting is allowed to gradually encroach from all sides, softening the hard edges and creating a more informal relationship between garden and parking.

The intervention is deliberately simple, but the effect is quite transformative. As the planting establishes, the boundaries between parking and garden will become increasingly blurred, allowing the space to feel less like a dedicated vehicle area and more like another part of the landscape.

A small but thoroughly considered project, it reflects the enthusiasm of wonderfully engaged clients who were willing to experiment with a different approach to the conventional suburban driveway.
