This Saint Marys Bay garden was developed alongside the architectural design by Jack McKinney, allowing the landscape to play an integral role in shaping the home from the outset.
The close collaboration between architecture, gardener and landscape created an opportunity for the outdoors to become more than simply an accompaniment to the house.
A layered planting scheme supports the architecture, creating a sense of privacy and enclosure, while carefully positioned trees and established specimens create changing views throughout the day. The garden is deliberately generous in its planting, reflecting a client who has a genuine passion for gardening and wanted the landscape to be an important part of their everyday life.
The green spaces have developed a strong sense of permanence, where building and planting are closely intertwined. Designed as part of the home rather than around it, the landscape gives the project a distinctly garden-led characteristic.
